Oral surgery case goes to jurors
Karen Dorn Steele (Staff Writer)
August 22, 2008The lawyers who've dueled for six weeks in a malpractice trial brought by a disabled woman against a Spokane oral surgeon gave their closing arguments Thursday in a packed courtroom in Spokane County Superior Court.
The families of Kimberly Kallestad and Dr. Patrick Collins listened intently to the last words the jury would hear before starting deliberations in the case.
Kallestad, 29, a former Lewis and Clark High School cheerleader and Washington State University student, was misled by Collins' assurances that he had a near-perfect record in performing open jaw surgery, lawyer Mary Schultz told the seven-man, five-woman jury.
